Fears that the credit crunch would result in businesses becoming less concerned with environmental issues have not been realised, according to a new survey conducted amongst small and medium sized businesses.

In fact, the latest ARENA Environmental Benchmarking Survey reveals that companies which demonstrate good environmental management are also enjoying continuous improvement in overall business performance.

Quadrant’s Managing Director, James Scully, says: “We’re delighted that this survey confirms our own belief that, despite the threat of increasingly tough trading conditions, environmental issues aren’t about to slip down the business agenda at the first economic hurdle.”

A recent project for Quadrant to supply the Bridget Riley-inspired carpet tile, Abstraction, in the refurbishment of world-leading mining company Rio Tinto’s offices in London’s Paddington, proves the point. Renowned for their highly ethical reputation, the company appointed Bennett Interior Design to create an eight-floor interior that reflected Rio Tinto’s self confident, revitalised, outward-looking, technologically advanced, responsive and responsible identity.

Sustainable measures include a rainwater harvesting system, on floor and central recycling and an automated energy efficient lighting system and are complemented by products from environmentally-conscious suppliers such as Quadrant. Scully says: “As you can see Abstraction is a stunning design but it is also made from Encore SD Ultima solution dyed nylon which means there's a minimum recycled content of 25%”.
